PSYC721 Group and Family Therapy

Prerequisites PSYC633 Counselling One-to-One, PSYC635 Assessment and Interventions with Adults and PSYC636 Child, Youth, and Family Interventions
Teaching Organisation 2 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.

The unit aims to provide students with an understanding of the principles and practice of group psychotherapy and family therapy, and to apply group and family therapy concepts to the treatment of psychological disorders. Consideration will be given to issues of group goals, group structure, group process and group facilitation. Students will be provided with an opportunity to engage in experiential groupwork and group psychotherapy. The unit will also provide the students with an understanding of the principles of therapy with families, including family therapy, parent-infant therapy, and other parent-child interaction therapies.
