PSYC635 Assessment and Interventions with Adults

Prerequisites PSYC630 Psychological Assessment, PSYC631 Psychological Disorders, PSYC633 Counselling One-to-One
Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent, including a 6-hour workshop on psychopharmacology.

This unit will provide a detailed study of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, including psychopharmacological treatments and therapeutic outcomes with a range of adult disorders. An important focus will be on the understanding, application and limitations of the research on efficacious interventions with particular disorders. Treatment process and outcome will be considered along with the contribution of therapist, client, within treatment and extra therapy factors. The principles, procedures and techniques of psychological and psychopharmacological interventions, rehabilitation and primary prevention of psychological disturbance will be examined. An emphasis will be placed on the sequential components of treatment and specific methods employed within the interventions.
