PHIL104 Introduction to Ethics

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent of lectures, tutorials and seminars.

This unit aims to explore some of the fundamental questions in moral philosophy. Topics discussed may include: the nature of moral responsibility; the possibility of moral knowledge; theories of ethics such as utilitarian, deontological, natural law, Socratic, feminist, and virtue approaches; Eastern moral perspectives such as Buddhism and Hinduism; and practical moral issues such as justice, killing, punishment, sexual behaviour, the treatment of animals, genetic manipulation and research, international and intercultural relations, and the use of the environment.
