10 cp
Prerequisites Nil
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit provides an introduction to the history and philosophy of the occupational therapy profession. Students explore the concept of humans as occupational beings and consider the activity limitations imposed by illness and disability. The unit is practical and interactive with opportunities for students to develop an understanding of the client as the centre of the therapeutic relationship, practise assessing and adapting tasks and the environment, and observe occupational therapists in clinical practice. Students begin to develop therapeutic skills in interviewing clients, analysing task performance, and in utilising equipment to overcome activity limitations during fieldwork.
