NRSG234 Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine

Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit will introduce students to the history, development, philosophy and concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Students will be able to understand how particular understandings of the human body, health, and illness can determine different, contradictory, and complementary assessment and treatment approaches in the practice of TCM. Students will also be able to examine the role of the nurse and their scope of practice, determined by their regulatory authority, in relation to practicing in an environment in which TCM may or may not be integrated with Western medicine. Additionally, students will be able to determine how concepts from TCM can be integrated into their personal and professional nursing practice.
