MGMT205 Managerial Decision Making

10 cp
Prerequisites HRMG100 Management and People.
Teaching organisation 3 hours per week (two hours of lectures and one hour of tutorial) for 12 weeks or equivalent in intensive mode or online.

Information and skills required to solve real problems in the business (or any other) world are so diverse and changing so rapidly that it is impossible within the confines of any undergraduate course to provide you with all the knowledge and discipline skills that you will need to solve the problems which you are likely to meet after graduation. Yet problem-solving and decision-making are the core of what professional work is all about. This unit is a first step to help you to develop the skills and attitudes to enable you to feel confident that you can tackle problems that presently cannot be foreseen. This requires a different kind of educational process one that focuses on you as the learner and emphasises an active, creative learning process on your behalf. In order to provide a framework and the skills necessary to solve “real” as opposed to “imaginary” problems, emphasis is placed on individual reflection and problem-solving skills, as well as how to analyse a problem, gather relevant information, generate solution hypotheses, make informed judgments on the basis of these hypotheses, the information available, their ethical values and common sense, and communicate their conclusions effectively.
