Prerequisites
HRMG100 Management and People
Incompatible PERS309 Organisational Behaviour
Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.

This unit examines human behaviour in organisations with specific focus on work organisations. The unit examines the ways in which an understanding of organisational behaviour is necessary to, and facilitates, the management of people at work. A major theme of the unit is that an understanding of the nature of organisations is inextricably linked to understanding organisational behaviour. There are three levels of behavioural analysis: the individual, the group and the organisation as a whole. The unit deals with the core concerns of the field of organisational behaviour, such as managing, motivation, group behaviour, leadership, decision-making, power, conflict and control, organisational culture and change. The unit also encourages students to think about management and organisations in ways which are multi-disciplinary, problem-solving and critical. A second theme examines issues relating to the effective attraction, selection and retention of people to the organisation. This unit adopts the concept that an organisations only sustainable source of competitive advantage is its people.
