HLSC404 Health Care Ethics for Physiotherapy Honours

10 cp
Prerequisites
Nil
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit addresses ethics and ethical issues relevant to contemporary health practice in preparing students to identify and respond to ethical challenges in health practice. The codes of ethics for health disciplines and specifically for physiotherapy will be reviewed. Cultural, social, legal and spiritual factors that influence individual values and beliefs will be explored. Students will develop an understanding of the ethical and practical implications of conducting research in the health professions to inform submission of a research proposal for ethical approval.

This unit is co-taught with Health Care Ethics (HLSC220), an interprofessional unit for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Pass program) and Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery students. Physiotherapy Honours students attend all classes with the broader group of students, but receive additional instruction on the development of an ethics proposal. The different assessment structure for Physiotherapy Honours students reflects the place of this unit in the Honours program.
