HIST330 Contemporary World History

Prerequisites 10 cp from 200-level units in History, Incompatible: HIST226 Contemporary World History
Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent of on-campus lectures and tutorials, with the possibility of online discussions, museum assignments and film screenings.

This unit will survey the ethnic, social, political, religious, economic and technological forces which have shaped the contemporary world, with particular emphasis on the post-Second World War period. Students will examine issues such as the rise of nationalism and the break-up of European colonial empires, the emergence of the developing countries, ethnic and religious conflict, the rise of globalization and the role of charismatic leaders. Case studies will be used, deriving from regions not covered in-depth in other History units.
