GLST201 Global Change and Development

This unit examines the globalization phenomenon focusing on the various structures, institutions and flows of peoples and cultures that shape patterns of production, consumption and social well-being. In particular, we consider the nature and complexity of an unequal world and its peoples - between and within nations. Topics covered include: theorizing globalization; modernity and third world development; the globalized economy; global political structures; cultural globalization; world migration; environmental concerns; risk society; McDonaldization; global inequality; resistance to globalization.
