GEOG202 Coastal Environments

10 cp
Prerequisites GEOG100 Foundations of Physical Geography
Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.

The ability of coastlines to accommodate the high magnitude and rapid rate of change imposed by coastal and catchment developments is dependent on the robustness of the coastal ecosystem, our understanding of the coastal processes and management strategies implemented to mitigate impacts. This unit introduces students to the geomorphology of coastal landscapes and the management of coastal resources. An understanding of the geomorphology of coastal landscapes is a prerequisite for investigations of management issues. The unit also undertakes to develop skills (incorporating observation, collection of field data, collation of data using Excel, interpretation of data using statistical techniques, maps and remote sensing imagery) for investigation of coastal phenomena. Students analyse and evaluate issues associated with management of coastal resources.
