EXSC320 Advanced Biomechanics

10 cp
Prerequisites EXSC220 Biomechanics
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

The effective application of biomechanics to prevent injury and enhance performance requires the individual to be well-informed and knowledgeable on biomechanical theories, movement analysis techniques, and the scientific literature. This unit therefore fosters the development of knowledge and skills required for professional practice in exercise and sport science, with a focus upon biomechanics. Knowledge gained in foundation (EXSC120 Mechanical Bases of Exercise) and core studies (EXSC220 Biomechanics) will be extended though, for example, advanced kinetic and kinematic concepts, measurement techniques, and an examination of the material properties of sports surfaces and equipment. Awareness and understanding of selected literature will be developed, as well as the ability to understand, interpret and evaluate selected research articles as they apply to specific problems.
