EXSC220 Biomechanics

10 cp
Prerequisites EXSC120 Mechanical Bases of Exercise
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit examines the application of anatomical and mechanical concepts to the study of human movement. The neuromuscular and material properties of the human body will be considered, together with an extended understanding of the kinematics and kinetics of rigid and biological systems. The unit provides experience in collecting kinematic and kinetic data using video cameras, motion analysis software, force platforms, and EMG. The laboratory work will focus upon the applications of biomechanics in exercise, clinical, and sport performance settings, with an emphasis on understanding how to analyse and interpret biomechanical data, and then communicate the results to a lay audience.
