EXSC199 Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity

10 cp
Prerequisites Nil
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This introductory unit aims to provide students with an understanding of sport psychology within a framework that examines the relationship between physical activity and psychological wellbeing in the context of the broader community. ACU’s learning paradigm (student-centred learning) will promote the ‘transformative experience’ emphasising students’ growth and development through the practice of appropriate citizenship skills. This unit will explore the theory and research related to the psychological aspects of sport behaviour, challenging students to assume the ‘habit of the critical mind’ – critical thinking, open-minded reflection on the links between sport behaviour, physical and mental health, and quality of life. Students will review research and intervention models in sport psychology and be able to integrate this knowledge into their given discipline.
