EXSC189 Research and Ethics in Exercise Science

Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of research in Exercise Science. Introductory skills and knowledge for the conduct of research are developed in the context of appropriate ethical and legal frameworks. Competence in data collection and interpretation is presented as central to meeting the requirements for honesty and integrity in the management of knowledge. Fundamental principles of quantitative experimental design including the importance of observing explicit and disciplined processes in statistical analyses, sampling and the making of inferences are highlighted together with the respectful recruitment, treatment and confidentiality of participants. The requirements for transparency and completeness in the dissemination of knowledge is emphasised in the context of meeting the requirements of moral and social expectations.
