EDFD670 Leadership and Advocacy in Gifted Education

This unit of study provides opportunities to consider the education of gifted and talented students at a whole-of-school level as well as at the level of government in terms of curriculum and policy development and implementation. The development of comprehensive educational programs for gifted and talented students will be addressed in light of the principles of social justice, equity and respect for human dignity, and taking account of how socio-cultural contexts can influence teaching and learning practices. Policy development will be considered at the level of the individual school and at the government level. Contemporary Australian curricula, syllabus documents and educational policies will be critically analysed and evaluated in terms of relevance to the education of gifted and talented students. This unit will provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills required to communicate and advocate effectively about diversity in education and for the need to provide sensitively for gifted and talented students in educational settings. This unit will also provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills necessary to interpret and conduct research in education, and may cover topics such as study design, ethics requirements, completing a literature review and developing a research proposal.
