EDFD669 Gifted Education: Profiling, Provisions and Partnerships

10 cp

This unit of study examines current theory and research concerning the identification and profiling of gifted and talented youth. A number of research-based identification and profiling strategies and tools will be introduced, including those designed to be sensitive to the learning dispositions of Indigenous students and students with additional needs. This unit will also address current theory and research concerning educational provisions for gifted and talented youth, including approaches to monitoring, assessment of and reporting on educational progress. Educational provisions for gifted students are introduced through contemporary research and practices that recognise that such provisions produce better outcomes for students. There will be an opportunity to implement and evaluate relevant and effective research-based teaching and learning strategies, including those responsive to Indigenous students and students with additional needs. The unit looks at the nature of gifted education approaches in the provision of education within broader socio-cultural contexts. There is consideration of how collaboration with other professionals, such as psychologists and counsellors can enable enhanced learning and developmental outcomes for some gifted and talented youth.
