EDFD449 Education Systems in an International Context

This unit is designed as an elective unit for undergraduate courses to provide a strong internationalisation element to Education courses. It involves a three week field trip to Malta, Europe and it provides an opportunity to explore public and religious schooling systems in an international cultural context. It examines the distinctive contribution a predominately Catholic country’s public religious, social and cultural identity has upon the development and functioning of various schooling systems in a European nation. The unit is designed to extend knowledge about how the social, historical and religious contexts of culture may impact upon the schooling systems that are accountable to national as well as European regulations. Through a series of field experience trips, school visits and lectures in Malta students will have an opportunity to compare and contrast international perspectives on education with their own experiences of education in schooling systems in Australia.
