COUN658 Introduction to Research Methods

10 cp
Prerequisites Nil
Teaching Organisation 2 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent

This unit provides an introduction to the main issues involved in designing a research project in the area of counselling. This includes making decisions about how research is to be carried out, and what procedures are needed if the aims are to be realised and the conclusions drawn are logically and empirically sound. Students will be asked to assess the strengths and weaknesses of different research methodologies and designs as they relate to the aims, objectives and theoretical underpinnings of particular research studies. This will include the development and ethical considerations of a research proposal in an area of their own choice.
