Prerequisites Nil
Teaching Organisation 2 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent

This unit introduces students to the current thinking in the much researched area of attachment. Research from neuroscience continues to provide rich findings in relation to affect regulation, the physiological basis of subjective and intersubjective experience, early attachment processes and the influence of positive relationships on the brain. The particular relevance of these findings will be related to counselling practice. The concept of the development and adaptation of neural networks will be related to empathy, emotional integration and psychological resourcefulness in childhood and its consequences for adult life. Students will apply their learning to their own therapeutic practice, as appropriate, or to their professional discipline.
