COUN630 Group Processes in Counselling

10cp
Prerequisites Nil
Teaching Organisation Two contact hours per week via lectures and skills-based workshops. Additional weekly reading will be required.

Counselling is often conducted in a group setting. Understanding the nature of group dynamics and approaches to counselling within different group contexts greatly enhances the counsellor’s capacity to work with a wider client population. Groups whether a natural part of life or deliberately established, involve group dynamics and processes. To effectively utilise the opportunities that such groups provide for personal growth of individuals, as well as for increasing the effectiveness of group functioning, those in helping the professions require an in-depth knowledge of group processes and skills. This unit focuses on theory and practice to improve the counsellor’s ability to facilitate group functioning.
