THSR200 Hinduism and Buddhism

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.

This unit will introduce students to the two major religious traditions from the Indian subcontinent, Hinduism and Buddhism. It will explore the origins and subsequent histories of these traditions, and note their important religious and social developments. An emphasis will rest on the key religious beliefs and practices within each tradition, and on the study of the more important Hindu and Buddhist texts. Attention will be paid to the complexity and diversity of Hinduism and Buddhism, both historically and in the modern day.
