10 cp
Prerequisites
THCT102 Early Church to 500CE
Teaching Organisation 3 contact hours per week over twelve weeks or equivalent of lectures and seminars on campus.

This unit seeks to build on the study of the development of Christian thought in the period beyond New Testament times to the Council of Chalcedon in 451CE by studying key primary texts from the period. The contribution which a study of the writings of the early Fathers of the Church and of some of the major heretics where appropriate makes to the study of theology generally is that it is in their writings that the formative determinations on a whole range of theological issues the doctrines of God, the person and work of Christ, the Trinity, the Church, the sacraments, the human person, and so on are first argued and formulated. This unit will focus on these key writings so that their influence on the later development of Christian thought might be evaluated.
