THCT207 Church: Purposes and Practices

Teaching Organisation 3 contact hours per week over twelve weeks or equivalent of lectures, tutorials, and seminars.

This unit aims to familiarise students with classical and contemporary discussions of the church, its purposes and practices, and to demonstrate how such discussions influenced the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia and continue to shape its development and self-understanding. This will be achieved against the background of critical studies of the practices of baptism, reading and listening to scripture, Eucharist, the ordering of the church, and the churchs mission.
