SWTP628 Social Work and Policy

Prerequisites SWTP621 Context for Social Work
Teaching Organisation 4 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent with additional time required for field visits.

This unit analyses the policy dimension of social work practice in the Australian context at an advanced level. Current social policy frameworks, processes and issues will be used to examine development and implementation of policy in government and non-government spheres critically. The impact of policy decisions on people from diverse and vulnerable populations will be explored. Students will be required to research and analyse particular current policy issues relevant for social work practice and to examine real world implications and constraints. The unit provides students with hands on experience in policy formulation and policy implementation skills.
