Teaching Organisation Students will participate in the equivalent of 24 hours class time in a semester in a range of face-to-face and flexible-delivery approaches.

Evaluation has become an essential component of practice in the human services sector. Shifts in the economy of social welfare have meant practitioners need skills to evaluate their work. This unit critically examines the practice of evaluation within the changing social policy context that demands from practitioners and organisations information about outcomes and evidence of good practice. The unit will focus on the changing environment where welfare organisations confront multiple and often contradictory goals. Evaluation may be regarded as a device for financial and ideological control or it can be used as way of developing skills in making judgements about good practice and for influencing change. This unit will examine the context within which practice is carried out and focus on developing the research skills needed to utilise evaluation techniques. It considers the skills required to design new programs and evaluate process and outcomes in existing programs and services, and examines the techniques available to evaluate individual practice.
