Globalisation brings with it potential prosperity and a range of challenges. Many global companies utilise convergent management practices instead of divergent practices to achieve organisational efficiency but are now beginning to realise that it has limited impact on country specific management practices.Managerial and employee values, attitudes and beliefs towards work and organisations determine employee behaviour. Hence it is important to understand the country's national cultural and work values to develop culturally indigenous management practices to achieve organisational effectiveness. This subject focuses on country specific cultural dimensions to understand work culture from the 'inside' or ‘emic’ perspective of the culturally indigenous management practices rather than an 'outside' or ‘etic’ perspective to analyse a host country’s management practices. The country specific work values will be introduced using a common framework of how organisational effectiveness is affected by a country's external environment (cultural, socio-economical, political and technology), micro and macro level of organisation and culturally indigenous work culture.
