MGMT305 Management and Leadership

Prerequisites Completion of 120 credit points including MGMT101 Fundamentals of Management
Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.

This unit will examine the principles of leadership and their application to leadership practices in our contemporary society. The unit will challenge participants to reflect on leadership and management theories, strategies and practices and analyse them from a number of perspectives to identify their relevance to managing functions and organisations in the public and private sectors. Participants will be challenged to identify the basic values and assumptions underpinning these various approaches with a view to determining their own philosophy and values and how these will help shape their leadership and management practices. The unit will help participants to become acquainted to respond effectively and authentically to the many challenges, tensions and paradoxes facing todays organisations.
