MGMT203 Managing Organisations

Teaching Organisation This unit is taught in the distance education mode and is presented in two parts. Part one consists of 12 topics presented over twelve weeks. There will be a new module (topic) every week. Each module consists of required reading, outcomes, key terms, summary or required reading and an assessment item. Part two consists of residential school sessions.

The purpose of this unit is to introduce the student to study of management and organisational processes. The broad purpose is to enable students to gain an understanding of human behaviour in work organisations and the effects of organisational structure and policies on staff. The unit stresses the need for a systematic way of thinking about people at work and the implications of such thinking for dealing effectively with problems that face staff in work organisations. This unit will also explore social responsibility and ethical issues. The emphasis will be on the application of these and other relevant concepts to the workplace. Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations will be considered.
