HUMA316 The Law and Duty of Care

Teaching Organisation Each semester is twelve weeks in length and is taught by distance education.

This unit introduces residential supervisors to the legal issues concerned with care of residents in the residential education setting. Although seen as a formidable area of concern in the care and supervision of residents, there are guidelines to follow and precedents set which enable a common sense approach to management of these issues. Concepts and ramifications of the term in loco parentis are studied, as well as policy and practice concerned with standards of care, risk assessment and reporting. The development of best practice ensuring the highest quality of care, are of primary concern.
