HLSC303 Engaging with People with Dementia

Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit provides an opportunity for students to develop their knowledge and awareness of the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of people with dementia and how best to contribute to the health and wellbeing and dignity of people with dementia. Students will volunteer at a selected non-profit or public sector organisation to learn about and appreciate the role and complexities of the organisation in supporting people with dementia and their families in the community. This involvement will provide a vehicle for the student to develop and reflect upon the values of partnership, equality, mutual respect and commitment and the degree of transformation that community engagement engenders in the student.
