Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit will examine the use of exercise as a rehabilitation tool for chronic disease management. It will explore the interaction of pertinent human physiological systems and the pursuit of homeostasis during various exercise stressors as they relate to exercise and chronic disease. Effect of exercise on acute responses and chronic adaptations to muscle, cardiac, respiratory, central and peripheral systems will be explored. Factors that limit performance and physiological adaptations will also be examined. The unit will provide skills in standard screening procedures, submaximal exercise testing, estimating energy expenditure and exercise efficiency/economy in different activities. They will also be given instruction in basic resistance training techniques. The unit will develop the skill-set required to evaluate, design and implement an exercise-based rehabilitation program for chronic disease.
