EXSC624 Biomechanics

10 cp
Prerequisites
Nil
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

In this unit students will examine the application of anatomical and mechanical concepts to the study of human movement to understand the forces acting upon the human body and to manipulate these forces in treatment procedures so that human performance may be improved and further injury prevented. The neuromuscular and material properties of the human body will be considered, together with the kinematics and kinetics of rigid and biological systems. Specific emphasis will be given to the areas of posture and balance, gait (walking and running), and musculoskeletal biomechanics. The unit provides experience in collecting kinematic and kinetic data. The laboratory work will focus upon the applications of biomechanics in rehabilitation settings, with an emphasis on understanding how to analyse and interpret biomechanical data, and on communication with patients and other health providers.
