EXSC293 Neural Basis of Human Movement

10 cp
Prerequisites BIOL119 Foundations of Biological Science 1, BIOL120 Foundations of Biological Science 2 and EXSC187 Growth, Motor Development and Ageing
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit introduces the fundamental basis of the nervous system and explores its role in controlling movement and posture in humans. The structure and function of the brain and spinal cord will be examined and the integration of motor pathways with general and special senses will be developed. Students will be introduced to basic movement patterns in the form of reflexes and will learn the consequences of neural injury and pathology, in preparation for further study in neurophysiological mechanisms of motor control or neurological rehabilitation.
