EXSC292 Exercise Metabolism

10 cp
Prerequisites BIOL119 Foundations of Biological Science 1 and BIOL120 Foundations of Biological Science 2
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit will introduce students to exercise metabolism from a biochemical/physiological perspective. The structure and function of the major biomolecules involved in metabolism will be identified. Bioenergetics and enzyme kinetics will be explored, together with the role of specific enzymes in the primary metabolic pathways. An examination of these pathways with respect to substrate transport, substrate storage, and substrate handling will take place. The regulation of metabolism will also be discussed. Throughout the unit, all aspects of metabolism and its biochemical interactions will be examined in the context of the exercising human.
