EXSC240 Exercise Physiology

10 cp
Prerequisites EXSC292 Exercise Metabolism
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.

This unit will advance students knowledge of exercise metabolism and the evaluation of human health, fitness and performance. Exercise physiology will explore the interaction of pertinent human physiological systems and the pursuit of homeostasis during various exercise stressors. Effect of exercise on acute responses and chronic adaptations to muscle, cardiac, respiratory, central and peripheral systems will be explored. Factors that limit performance and physiological adaptations will also be examined. Students will be encouraged to begin to develop a more intricate, mechanistic understanding of the relationship between exercise and human physiology. Contemporary methods for evaluating health and performance and demonstrating theoretical concepts will be expanded using problem-based, research-driven learning approaches.
