ETHN105 Social Transformations in Asian Societies Since 1850

This unit aims to introduce students to the fundamental issues of Asian Societies in the years after European contact. It explores the diversity of Asia in economic, cultural, political and religious terms. The principal aim of this course is to engender an understanding of the diverse economic, historical, and cultural characteristics of the countries that comprise the world region known as Asia, and of their relations with Australia. The areas covered by this unit are South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia.
