EDSS437 Humanities Teaching and Learning 2

This unit is designed to enable participants to develop an understanding of the way in which the humanities disciplines are taught and studied in the secondary school. It is designed to further develop and extend the participants competence and ability in the planning of learning experiences which enable school students to develop the knowledge and skills identified in the school curriculum, with a particular emphasis on the last three years of secondary school assessment of learning, both formative and summative, and the importance of language use in learning will be underlying themes. The unit will build on documents relating to humanities curricula. There is a focus on the use of information and communication technologies with particular attention to the use of CD material and the world-wide-web. The unit proceeds to explore strategies for engaging secondary students in exploring and participating in authentic research. Special attention will be given to the development of literacies and catering for individual differences within classes.
