EDMA629 Teaching and Teachers in Mathematics

In this unit, students review and critique literature on mathematics teaching practices, including issues such as instructional models, grouping practices, mechanisms for catering for mixed ability classes, practices of effective teachers and the influence of particular task types on teaching practices. It explores the significance of, and influences on teacher attitudes and beliefs. Students study models of teacher development and teacher change, and examine strategies for stimulating reflective teaching, for developing professional learning teams, and for creating and supporting opportunities for ongoing professional learning.
