EDFX511 Graduate Professional Practice Secondary 1

This unit is one of the two core professional experience units in the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) and the Master of Teaching (Secondary). It is complementary to the work in other units and enables preservice teachers to commence applying the theory, skills, techniques and processes presented to and learned in Education Studies and Curriculum and Teaching Studies. The unit orients preservice teachers to the school community, policies and procedures and teaching. Through observation and practice this unit enables preservice teachers to develop foundational skills in teaching such as planning, assessment and reporting, effective classroom management and developing and structuring a variety of learning experiences which are appropriate, challenging and effective for particular year levels. Through this unit preservice teachers are enabled to engage in professional learning experiences that provide opportunities for the development of new knowledge and skills, deeper cultural awareness, and professional identity. This unit is undertaken over a period of time which counts towards fulfilling the number of days required by the registration authority in each state and territory.
