COUN402 Counselling Diverse Populations

This unit is designed to make students aware of issues related to professional counselling in a multicultural society. Cultural diversity is examined in relation to individuals responses to stressors and crises, which might be influenced by the socialising influences in their development or community. Cultural sensitivity is examined, particularly with respect to ethnic identity, gender and sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status and religion, and how these impact on, for example, behaviours, rules of behaviour, attitudes and values.
