You will be required to pay fees to attend university. To help with fee costs, you can combine your studies with full or part-time work, as well as apply for financial assistance. Student fee assistance includes:
A loan program to help eligible Commonwealth-supported students to pay the student contribution portion of their fees. Students start repaying the loan once their income reaches a certain amount.
Available to assist eligible students with paying their Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
A loan scheme that assists eligible fee paying students to pay all or part of their tuition fees.
A payment made to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to provide support to students and Australian apprentices to improve access and participation in secondary and tertiary education and training.
There will be other expenses on top of your student fees associated with your course of study. These vary, but may include:
- text books
- medical checks
- specialised equipment (eg, stethoscopes for nursing students).
Attending university may also incur various living expenses. These include:
A means-tested payment for full-time students and Australian apprentices aged 16 to 24.
A payment by the Federal government to eligible individuals to help with rent. It gives extra assistance if you have a low income and rent accommodation, generally in the private rental market.
A payment for eligible tertiary students to cover the travel costs associated with their study if they need to live away from home to undertake that study. Fares Allowance is available to recipients of ABSTUDY, Austudy, Youth Allowance (student) and the Pensioner Education Supplement.
A loan available to students who demonstrate a genuine need for assistance.
