New Scholarships for Higher Education Students
From 1 April 2010 Centrelink will pay two new scholarships to higher education students to assist with the costs of studying and living away from home. Students do not need to apply for these scholarships as Centrelink will pay eligible students directly. The two new scholarships are:
- Student Start-up Scholarship - paid to full-time students undertaking a qualifying course and receiving Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY Living Allowance.
- Relocation Scholarship - paid to eligible dependent Youth Allowance and ABSTUDY (Living Allowance) customers to help with the costs of living away from home to study.
Please note: You will not be eligible to receive the Start-up Scholarship if you are already in receipt of a Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (CECS). Likewise, you will not be eligible to receive the Relocation Scholarship if you are already in receipt of a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (CAS).
Students who are in current receipt of a CECS and/or a CAS awarded prior to 1 January 2010, will continue to receive their scholarship under the Government’s grandfathering arrangements for as long as they remain eligible.
