Jodie Michelle Reid Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2016 as a tangible memorial to Jodie Reid, a 1996 ACU Nursing Graduate and Centaur Medalist, who died in 2004, aged 27, after suffering the ravages of Diabetes Mellitus for 25 years.


One scholarship valued at $4,000 is available each year, paid in one lump sum.


This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Australian citizens
  • Studying at the Brisbane campus
  • Undertaking the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Paramedicine
  • In the second year of their course.

Required Documentation

The following documents must be submitted with the application:

  • A written statement of approximately 500 words outlining:
    • Financial hardship;
    • your involvement and/or leadership in a rural/remote/regional community;
    • how your degree would potentially benefit your community;
    • how your degree would potentially benefit future career aspirations;
    • Disadvantage due to disability or chronic medical condition, geographic location or financial, social or cultural factors.
  • Academic transcript (current)
  • Evidence of your involvement and/or leadership in community service through activities designed to create a more just, merciful and sustainable world
  • Written reference.

Applicants are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Academic merit
  • Community service
  • Written reference.

Selection Process

Applicants will be shortlisted by the Scholarships Office and recipients selected by the donor.

Ongoing Requirements

Recipients are requested to submit a letter of appreciation for the donor explaining how the Scholarship has assisted them. The letter should be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October of each year.


Preference will be given to applicants who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and/or students from rural/remote/regional areas.
