Mission and Goals of the Counselling Service

Mission

“The university will provide students with a satisfying student life in a supportive learning environment on all of its campuses.” (Australian Catholic University Strategic Plan 2009-2011, KRA 1.3 Student Life and Support)

The Australian Catholic University Counselling Service aims to provide quality professional counselling support to students challenged by personal and situational issues which impact on their student experience.
 
The service also provides opportunities for students to develop general life skills through psycho-educational processes and resources enhancing their overall learning experience.

Goals

The Australian Catholic University Counselling Service contributes to student’s high quality learning experience by:

  • The provision of quality professional counselling to students who require psycho-social support to fully realize their personal and educational goals.
  • Raising awareness of and responding to the concerns of students.
  • Assisting the University to manage student risk by providing preventative and consultative services that are legally and ethically compliant.
  • Incorporating references to graduate attributes and generic skills into service programmes. (Australian Catholic University Teaching and Learning Plan 2009-2011 1.v.e)
  • Providing quality flexible psychosocial resources, particularly web enhanced resources to support student learning. (ACU, T & L plan 2009-2011 1.viii.b)
  • Conducting student orientation activities through out first year to assist in transition to university learning.  (ACU, T & L Plan 2009-2011 3.i.d)
