The University of Freiburg, officially the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg, is a public research university located in Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Founded in 1457, Freiburg is the fifth-oldest university in Germany, with a long tradition of teaching the humanities, social and natural sciences. Freiburg is one of Europe’s top research and teaching institutions, made up of 11 faculties, and attracts students from across Germany as well as from all over the world.

Semester dates

  • ACU Semester 1: mid April to late July (Summer Semester)
  • ACU Semester 2: mid October to early February (Winter Semester)

Academics

Freiburg offers very limited subjects in English each semester. Students should have a B2/C1 level of German proficiency in order to take courses in German.

English taught courses can include:

The language teaching centre at Freiburg also offers German language courses which are free for exchange students, but places fill quickly so students should sign up as soon as the acceptance letter is received.

A full-time semester load at Freiburg is 24-30ECTS which is equivalent to 1 semester full-time at ACU (40cps)
