SharePoint Project

Project Overview

With the continual growth of ACU our documents and files will grow and as most of us through personal experience are aware it becomes more difficult to keep track of documents and their location. SharePoint will help us overcome this by allowing us to store and locate our files in a central site.

With our multiple campus location, SharePoint will enable working teams and individuals to connect and collaborate together. Files will not need to be emailed as they will be stored in one location allowing access to all team members.  Through version control there will only be one document in one location, eliminating the multiple documents with different versions that we currently might have. SharePoint can also help us manage our Calendars and with the introduction of Microsoft Outlook, it will reduce the need for multiple Calendars.

ACU staff will be able to access all of this through a simple and familiar web interface, which will also allow us to access our files from home, thus providing a consistent user experience.

Update — November 2008

With the help of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Education and the Library we have conducted a pilot test over the last 10 months. We were able to identify that SharePoint would provide great benefits to ACU and its employees.

We have started the SharePoint Project and currently are working our way through the project plan. We are developing plans to deploy SharePoint to all staff over the next 12 months. More news will follow.
