LEO Assignments provides an overview of the different ways that LEO can be used to assess student work.
The workshop will focus on Turnitin and the Assignment activity in LEO including how to create, view and grade student assignments.
Intended audience: Academic staff.
Turnitin is a text matching tool producing ‘originality reports’ for student submissions, indicating instances of possible matches in others’ writing (i.e., published work and submissions maintained by Turnitin repository). It encourages students to review their assignment; evaluate their references and promotes critical thinking and original writing.
The workshops will compare the Assignments activity in LEO with Turnitin and the advantages of both. It will introduce standard, group and non-traditional assignments such as video assignments and online portfolios.
Guided by local eLearning Advisors from the Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC), you will identify the benefits of using Turnitin, Assignment and other LEO assessment tools.
At the end of this workshop it is expected that participants will be able to:
compare advantages of Turnitin and the Assignment activity in LEO
view an originality report and identify its key features
mark and provide feedback for assessment tasks
find resources for other types of assessment in LEO.
