Soccer match for Timorese Youth

Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Brisbane Campus recently held the annual Staff vs Student soccer match.

Sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank, the charity match raises funds for the Future in Youth project - a community capacity building program in East Timor.

A three-week after-school sport program, Future in Youth uses football to engage more than 800 East Timorese youths in activities to improve their health, wellbeing and life skills.

It also aims to develop in partnership with the community and provide ongoing opportunities for youth to be engaged in sport.

Eric Robinson, Campus Life Coordinator, said the soccer match is enjoyed by staff and students.

“It is always a great event to hold, the staff and students get very competitive,” said Eric. “I’m happy to be able to have this game which supports such a great project. The match is one element of a day of entertainment which also includes a Market Day, free food and drink, live music and various stalls.

“All funds raised from the game go towards Future in Youth, an excellent program that rewards for both the youth of Baucau and our students.”
