Young Citizen of the Year 

Graduating student of the Bachelor of Nursing/ Bachelor of Paramedicine course, Jess Cannane, was recently awarded the Ballarat Young Citizen of the Year Award.

She won this award for her involvement with the Student Association on ACU’s Ballarat Campus, the Aquinas Student Association (ASA), and the Ballarat Hockey Association. 

Jess was involved with ASA for three years, two of which she was president. She has been involved with the Ballarat Hockey Association for two years and was president of the association for one year.

Jess said the highlight of her roles as presidents was witnessing how both associations’ benefited students. “It’s a great honour,” she said.

 “It’s quite humbling to receive recognition for my work for the past few years.”
She received the award at a special Australia Day ceremony at the Art Gallery of Ballarat and was also an honorary attendee at the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony in Ballarat.

Jess will graduate this year and is soon to start her graduate nursing year at the Stawell Hospital.
